The Mitty gets underway!
The 2017 Mitty is underway from Road Atlanta. This shot is the first lap from the second or third group that kicked the Friday morning events off.
This is the view of the short straight that leads into turn 10A.
Porsche is the featured manufacturer this year
Shot this coming out of turn 10B headed for the bridge. From the Road Atlanta Mitty website .. "Porsche will be the featured marque when the Mitty returns to Road Atlanta. Porsche has had a long and storied history in motorsports, and many of the company’s classic race cars will be on display and on track at the Mitty."

I arrived at the track just as this great class of vintage cars finished running. I was able to shoot this fella returning to his staging area.

I like geometric patterns so when I saw all of the empty theater seating at Road Atlanta I just had to take a crack at this artie shot.

I think this was my favorite color scheme of the day! Just a beautiful car flying down the track. "Oh Canada, eh"
IMSA Series Coupes .. I think
I love these IMSA coupes. Hey, everyone knows I'm a coupe guy. If these aren't IMSA class cars, some of you better race educated guys chime in.
Beautifully sleek TWR Jaguar
This was just a beautifully smooth car going around the track. I always had a pull for Jaguar. Don't remember them winning much in quite a while but still love these cars.
IMSA car again I think into 10B
I think this is the Prototype Challenge (PC) class as it was running with the Prototype Coupes so I'm assuming all running in that group were IMSA cars of various IMSA classes but all Prototype class as the GT' class cars ran separate to themselves.
I think this was the Soup to Nuts Class
It was really fun seeing these first two cars out running. Someone identify the blue car up front. I took paddock pics of it several years back. Has gull wing doors. I don't think its terribly fast for its class but it sure is a sleek thing to look at. Love seeing the 50's Vette tracked out and running too!
While in the 10 turns .. some 60's American Muscle
The guy in the middle Stang was pushing hard trying to overtake the General. Went into a nice little drift here between 10A and 10B.

A Bill Thomas Cheetah
My second favorite pic taken at this years Mitty. A Bill Thomas Cheetah just heading under the bridge at Road Atlanta. The Cheetah never really lived up to its beautiful skin. Born as a competitor for the Shelby Cobra, it lived only a three year run with little wins of note. It does live on though as one of the most beautiful shapes in race car history. Most creative camper at the Mitty!
Very cool mini trailer/camper setup! I've never been big into camping, but I've always appreciated creativity and good use of small space. I think this guy came up with a great big solution for expanding his small trailer. Pretty cool!
Favorite shot of the day!
Giving this the Mike Ashmore treatment! Jeff Brugger posted some race photos from a really great photographer named Mike Ashmore. I liked them so much I decided to try to give this shot my interpretation of the MA treatment.
