Small Pharmacy in Athens, GA still with Soda Fountain
On the way to the GA State Botanical Gardens I came on this place by accident. I looked up Drug Store on Google Maps looking for a place that might have a strap for my glasses. This small pharmacy was the closest so I headed there. When I walked in I was surprised to see they still had a Soda Fountain. Didn't find a strap for my glasses but did snag this one pic. This is with the Steinheil München 85mm f2.8 at ISO 1000 and you can see pretty clearly how un-sharp for general photography this lens is. However I thought it was a perfect fit for shooting a retro image like this. I may have the focal point a hair too close to me because I was hurrying along to not impede their business. While I have added a very small amount of film grain its minimal compared to the noise grain already there from ISO 1000. I actually was surprised at how much noise was evident once the color was stripped away. Although that was done with a filter in DXO OptixPro 11 and that may have added some grain simulation of its own.
So the Steinheil München 85mm comparatively with today's equipment is mostly a novelty and role player lens. A nostalgic keeper from the past. With extension tubes it makes a really nice soft close focus lens and is good for recreating a retro shot look such as this. It has outstanding old school color especially in muted lighting conditions. Wouldn't want to use if for any critical general photography though.
