The Mystery Lens Again!

Using a lens at the point of its worst characteristics in a way totally not intended. The Mystery Lens again. I'll let you know its a zoom. This lens is pretty sharp everywhere except at full telephoto. So what did I decide to do. Use it at full telephoto as a macro with an extension tube added. Just the kind of bass ackwards stuff I do sometimes!

Looking for a look and also sort of a test. This lens has awesome color and its pretty obvious it has great depth of mod. No, I don't care to do dry and boring bench tests trying to actually measure depth of mod. I just use them and report the facts as I see them. A lens with this much color, this well integrated into its luminance component obviously points to great depth of mod. Nothing strident and brittle here. This lens is thick and lush!

So while this lens actually is quite sharp across a wide focal length, these shots are pretty soft, which is what I was going for. Soft, a little glowie, and drop dead gorgeous colors. Using a great lens like this at its known worst parameters, sort of like putting peanut butter on a steak maybe. Or maybe not. But in this case, I like the results of the test.
